New Life Ensemble (Congo)

We are delighted to host for the third time a show that is unusual at Shablul:  "Chorale Vie Nouvelle" - the New Life Ensemble, a group of nine singers accompanied by a keyboard player, guitarist, bass guitarist and percussionist, most of whom are asylum seekers who escaped from Congo and now live in Israel. 

Ton-Ton, the conductor, a brilliant musician and singer who conducted church choirs of hundreds of singers before his escape, was a journalist in his country and forced to leave because he dared to criticize the government there.

Here in Israel, they have teamed up to preserve their culture and present it to us, and the result is truly addictive - African music at its best - spirituals and melodies seasoned with Hebrew prayer songs that members of the ensemble have learned and adopted.

The show combines singing in a variety of languages, ​​including Lingala, Swahili, French, English and Hebrew, as well as traditional dances with authentic costumes, and stories from the Congo about the lives of the asylum seekers.  Join us for a unique and mesmerizing experience for Israelis and all.  You will end up on your feet dancing with the ensemble!
